WASHINGTON – 15 April 2026: Steve Scalise, the Republican majority leader in the US House of Representatives, has praised President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his efforts to promote peace in the Middle East and strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US.

During a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday, Scalise highlighted the depth of bilateral ties and commended Egypt’s role in supporting regional security and stability, the ministry said in a statement.

Abdelatty, for his part, underscored the importance of the Egypt-US strategic partnership, describing it as a cornerstone for advancing security, stability, and development across the region.

He also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to further expand cooperation across political, economic, trade, and investment sectors.

The talks covered the latest regional developments amid the current crisis in the Middle East, the ministry said, apparently referencing to the US-Iran war.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts to promote stability through intensive engagement with various parties. He stressed that Egypt, in coordination with regional partners, is working to advance de-escalation, ease tensions, and contain the crisis.

The foreign minister reaffirmed that negotiations remain the most effective path to resolving ongoing conflicts.

Discussions also addressed key regional issues, including developments in the Palestinian cause and the situation in Lebanon.

Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s position on the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
